Motorists who own natural compressed gas-powered vehicles have another option for fueling.
Deborah Kroner, the spokeswoman for the county’s Public Works Department, said the county has opened the CNG station at 2023 W. Collins Ave. to the public.
“The station is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the public, so anyone can drive up and access the CNG fuel,” Kroner said. “We accept major credit cards, and it is a self-service location.”
Kroner said fueling will cost $2.13 per-gasoline-gallon equivalent. The CNG-powered Honda Civics that some county workers drive have a capacity for 7.8 gasoline gallon equivalent.
“The county is pleased to have this alternate fuel available that will provide fueling for personal vehicles, and several municipal and private fleets,” she said. “The use of CNG fuel improves air quality and supports the South Coast Air Qualify Management District’s goals for the region.”
Larry Slagle, president of Yellow Cab of Greater Orange County, said his company has 160 NCG-powered taxis and would make use of the station.
“There are a couple of stations in Anaheim and Garden Grove,” Slagle said. “But we’re telling out guys to go over there (to Collins).”
Slagle said his company has had CNG-powered vehicles for 2002. The CNG-powered taxis have a capacity for 10 gasoline-gallon-equivalent.
“The benefit is that CNG helps the engine last longer, ” he said. “Some vehicles have 500,000 miles on their original engines.”
Kroner said the profits made from sales will pay for the program and go towards site maintenance.

CNG stations are still scattered kinda like diesel stations for automobiles were in the 1970′s. Hope it catches on…
