Construction on safety enhancements at the railroad crossing at Riverdale Avenue at Orange-Olive Road is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
Construction is expected by the Orange County Transportation Authority to last four to six weeks and could result in partial road closures.
The work will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; and also from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday through Sunday.
Improvements include new street medians om both sides of the crossing on Riverdale, a new median on Orange-Olive, new pedestrian gates and new railings on both sides of the crossing and a new crosswalk on Orange-Olive.
According to the OCTA, the construction is part of an effort by the city to apply to the Federal Railroad Administration for a designated quiet zone.
If approved by the feds, train engineers approaching the crossing would only sound their horns in emergencies as opposed to every time there.
The improvements are meant to increase the level of safety so much there that the horn-blowing is not deemed necessary.
