John Wirtz
Occasionally, a supportive political party is all you look for when casting your vote.
Such was the case when Orange resident John M. Wirtz, 65, cast his vote for Democrat John MacMurray at the Fountain Care Center, 1835 W. La Veta Ave.
“I’m not that well studied (on the candidates),” he said. “But (MacMurray) was the only Democrat running.”
For Wirtz, the decision was personal.
“Republicans are not real friendly to gay people and I am a gay person,” he said.
Should MacMurray be elected, Wirtz would like to see basic Constitutional rights upheld.
“The separation of church and state would be great,” he said.

To read other Orange stories:
This is part of the bigger problem… gay people think “republicans are not friendly to them” yet the democrats they vote for ultimately decide what happens in this state and so far don’t seem any more friendly. You have a democrat run state and country and nothing has changed from the Bush years, has it?
Then this ding-dong says he wants his elected representative to support “separation of church and state”. The actual concept is “separation of church FROM state”, get it?
Of course he’s not “real studied on the candidates”. He’s probably not real studied on anything. At 65, that’s an embarrassment.
Scotty, it seems that you’re the one who doesn’t know how government works. Dems are NOT the only party running the state. Our governor is a Repub. and vetoes some bills that would aid the gay community, including the same-sex marriage bill passed by the Dem controlled legislature but vetoed by Schwarzenegger in 2007. Meaning–”Dems [DO NOT] ultimately decide what happens in this state.”
