It is the love of man’s best friend that motivated Amy and Tony Ort to vote for Republican Richard Fahar in the 72nd Assembly election at Son Light Christian Center in Orange.

The Orts, proud owners of a pedigree Schnauzer and Australian cattle dog, are opposed to Senate Bill 250, otherwise known as The Pet Responsibility Act.

“(Fahar) is not for the SB 250s, where the government is trying to regulate who gets to breed dogs and who doesn’t. We have a breed and a breeder. We’re not from a rescue shelter so we know that not everybody is like that,” Amy Ort said.

The measure would prohibit the sale of dogs and cats from public pounds and private shelters that have not been spayed or neutered.

It also would deny licenses to owners of unaltered dogs and can lead to fines.

It is not all about their furry friends. The Orts also believe that the Californian government and it’s officials need significant changes.

“Stay within your budget. Iif you don’t have the money don’t spend it,” said Tony Ort, a manufacturing engineer. The couple have been Orange residents for more than 20 years.

“I think we ought to fire everybody in the Californian government and make sure that they have to take Social Security like everybody else,” said Amy Ort, an office manager.
