North Orange: Santiago Boulevard improvements on way

November 10th, 2009, 4:00 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Chapman University blogger

santiago-cracksSantiago Boulevard is undergoing construction, from Brookside Avenue to Lincoln Avenue.

The construction is part of the Santiago Boulevard Rehabilitation Improvements Project, which is being conducted by a private contractor overseen by the city.

The project will improve the roadway by removing and reconstructing pavement areas and overlaying rubberized-asphalt-concrete pavement.

There will be areas added for buses to pull off to the side so they do not block traffic when stopped as well.

“The project is part of ongoing improvements and maintenance by the city,” said Paul Sitkoff, the city’s sp0kesman. “It is our effort to keep the city functioning at the efficiency the community has come to expect.”

The $1.2-million project is being paid for by various sources, including the city, the county’s half-cent sales tax known as Measure M and the state.

The project began in mid-October and will end about Dec. 31. Construction takes place Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Though there are no road closures, one lane is closed for construction but will be restored shortly, Sitkoff said. On-street parking will not be allowed on Santiago Boulevard within the construction area.

The city is advising residents to keep away from the area and the construction equipment.

For questions about the project, call 714-744-5525. For after-hours emergencies, call 714-538-1961.
