The location may be Orange, but inside the Street Fair the price of food and drink resembles Disneyland’s.

So before you head in, consider saving yourself $3.50 by purchasing bottled water  outside from a lemonade stand or local booth.

On the corner of Almond and Glassell, Katy Nogaki, 14, and Kristen Nogaki, 12, sit behind a large cardboard sign that reads “water” in thick Sharpie ink.

“My grandpa owns the bike store,” says Katy, mentioning Orange Cycle behind her, “the adults handle parking and we sell water.”

In addition to beverages, a handful of local businesses of Orange are embracing the parking dilemma by opening their parking lots…for a price.

So where do these earnings from these local stands go?

“I just finished Medical School, so I have to start paying that off,” says Joe Flores. During street fair, he uses his father’s office parking on Glassell as a paid lot, charging $10 a space.

“This weekend we’re looking to make around $1,500,” Flores says.

In front of the Filling Station on Palm and Glassell, Christina Decker and her father, Don, are also selling parking spots.

“I’m studying abroad in London this fall,” says Christina, a junior at Biola University, whose earnings go toward travel expenses and tuition.

“The first year selling lemonade, I sent all the money to CHOC Hospital,” says Orange’s Gavin Gomez, 11. “Then the second year to the LMS Foundation, then to Katrina.”

This year, though, Gomez is directing his earnings elsewhere.

“Legos,” he says with a smile, “I want this Star Wars Legos set; maybe a Nerf gun, too.”
